The American Legion Riders are a dedicated and enthusiastic group of the American Legion Family. The American Legion Riders was formed: 1) to promote the aims and purposes of the American Legion, 2) to promote motorcycle safety programs, and 3) to provide a social atmosphere for The American Legion as a family oriented motorcycling activity for members of The American Legion family. The American Legion Riders upholds the declared principles of The American Legion as well as conforms to and abides by the regulations and decisions of the post, department, and national organization.
The American Legion Riders is not a motorcycle club (M/C). We do not practice M/C rules and regulations. Post 10 has a committed group of riders that brings a diverse group of members together with the goal to serve and ride.

2024 Manassas St Patty’s Day Parade
The Rider also participated in 24th Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade, riders in attendance Steve Wells, Gregg Neiss and Granddaughter, Dave Fisk (Pops), Andy and Meredith Pascoe and Leon Kowalewski. A rainy and drizzly day didn’t stop us from riding, spirits were high and the luck of the Irish was with us.
March Polar Bear Ride
The Legion Riders took off on their 3rd Polar Bear ride of the season. Carl Carey, Dave Fisk (Pops), Leon Kowalewski, Rick Goodman, Steve Wells, Tim Henderson, Andy and Meredith Pascoe headed off on a wet 47° morning. Heading off to Hammerdown BBQ in Lenah Va., for some great BBQ. Thanks to the restaurant owners for putting in a nice motorcycle parking pad the week before our ride. We were the 1st to test it out. A nice leisurely ride back to the Post through the hills of Loudoun and Fauquier Counties brought us home. A nice 80 mile run.
New Riders Chapter 199 – Woodstock, VA
On 21 January 2023, Bob Drake (Legionnaire – Legion Rider) and Leo Smith (Legionnaire – Legion Rider) presented a $100 check to Scott McKee, Adjutant Post 199 Legion Riders. The Woodstock Legion Rider chapter was formed on 17 September 2022, and Post 10 Riders support this fledgling chapter. If you are out in Shenandoah County, stop in and see their wonderful facility at 411 S Muhlenberg St. The Post and street are named after John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg, a Lutheran pastor who, on January 21, 1776, famously threw off his clerical robes to reveal an officer’s uniform beneath and proclaimed, (according to later reports), “in the language of Holy Writ there is a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time has now come.” Muhlenberg went on to be promoted to a general in the Continental Army and led units in many battles, from Brandywine to Yorktown.
D-Day Memorial Ride
The small band of Brothers – Paul “Cheeks” Giovanni, Leon “Needs a Road Name” Kowalewski, Bob “Nitro” Ficken, and Carl “Dukes” Carey – mounted up and rode out on a chilly day to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va. What an amazing Memorial! You could spend a day or more just reading the plaques, walking the Memorial, and getting a grasp of what and how D-Day evolved. The layout is an impression of the LST’s dropping the boys on the beach amid a firefight as the struggle to reach the beaches and conquer the little piece of land ahead of them. Scaling cliffs and moving over the land head. Looming overhead, watching it all unfold is the most impressive “Overlord” monument. A sight to see for sure. Another ride back to the Memorial is expected. Round trip ride time was 11 1/2 hrs., and distance round trip was about 366 miles.
Thank You Cards Pickup
Special thanks to Leo and Carey Smith for setting up and leading what was an excellent Veteran’s Card pickup ride. One of the best rides we’ve done in a while. If you missed it, well, you missed something special. Thanks for Leo for taking point and leading us on a great ride. Bravo Zulu to the Smiths!
Veterans Day Parade
We had a great turnout of riders plus guests and riders from other Posts. This time is was Steve Wells taking point and getting us there on time. The weather cooperated and it was a beautiful thing! Although the parade is just a short ride it is inspiring to see all the people along the route cheering us on and thanking us for our service.
